Swaziland
Swaziland is one of the smallest African countries and is only 200km north to south and 130 km east to west. Hidden in Southern Africa with South Africa and Mozambique touching its borders, the Kingdom of Swaziland is renowned for its beauty and breathtaking vistas.
Exploring Swaziland will take you through a vibrant culture showcased by a welcoming and friendly nation. Made up of many different clans, Swaziland can boast a royal history that encases family life. Communities are made up of families dependent on each other and are encouraged to share their problems and joys with one another. Old age is treated with respect and elder members of clans are renowned for their wisdom and encouragement. By simply travelling through Swaziland you’ll sense the vibe of a culture rich with history and sincerity.
Swaziland has a variety of activities to make every type of traveller happy. Whether you’re an avid adventurer or hoping to get a glimpse of one of the big 5, there’s more than enough exciting things to do to keep you busy. From game viewing and nature reserve wondering, hiking, white water rafting, mountain climbing and going on a safari, Swaziland has something for everyone. Things to do also include exploring the towns and villages, bird watching, horse riding, golf and even gambling, as well as eating out at a variety of restaurants that cater for those wanting to experience local cuisine and for the less adventurous. Swaziland is a treasure trove of arts and crafts, with many markets and galleries to wonder through so you can find the perfect reminder of your trip.
Lesotho
Lesotho is an enclave country – completely surrounded by South Africa – and is the most Southern landlocked country in the world. Its largest town and capital is Maseru and is the main destination of most tourists visiting the kingdom. Lesotho is the most highly elevated country in the world, standing at 1400 m above sea level in elevation. For this reason, the kingdom of Lesotho is a popular destination amongst hikers and mountain climbers.
If however, mountain climbing doesn’t entice you this beautiful country, other activities such as horse riding and trekking, as well as bird watching and fishing are also popular. It is also a popular destination for cyclists, as they can train on mountains and be surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Due to the altitude, Lesotho remains cool throughout the year, regardless of its continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Made up of mostly highlands, many of Lesotho’s villages are difficult to reach by road. Often horse-riding, trekking, or light aircrafts are the only means of reaching the smaller villages. Roads are however being built to make entering and leaving these small communities easier.
Lesotho is a relaxing paradise of mountains and bird life, promising to leave you relaxed and awe-struck by the majestic mountain ranges and views.
