14 Night Wine Route 62 Holiday Itinerary

DAY ONE – FOUR
Today you will arrive at Cape Town International Airport (flight not included) and you will collect your hire car and self-drive to the vibrant
V & A Waterfront in the heart of Cape Town. Here you will stay for 4 nights in a Luxury Serviced Apartment on the Marina which is within easy strolling distance of the Main Waterfront with all of it shops, restaurants, cafes and markets. Using this area as a base you can easily drive out to the Constantia area where you can visit some of the oldest wine estates in South Africa. Moving further on, you can drive down to the Cape Peninsula and en route stop off at Cape Point Vineyards to taste their excellent Sauvignon Blanc. The area around Dubanville offers some great wineries; some with spectacular views.

DAY FIVE & SIX
Today you will self-drive to the beautiful Cape Winelands town of Stellenbosch. Here you will stay in the heart of the town at what is reportedly on of the oldest hotels in South Africa, the Oude Werf. The town has a lovely café society style and also houses the University of Stellenbosch which gives this traditional town a youthful feel. Maybe you would like to take one of our Food and Wine tours of the town, or take one of our Private Guided Wine tours with our wine expert Brian to a selection of award-winning wine estates. If you wish to drive out of town, don’t miss the amazing Vergelegen Wine Estate with its beautiful Manor House and colourful history and next door, the charming Lourensford Wine Estate, both located at Somerset West.

DAY SEVEN & EIGHT
From Stellenbosch you will take the scenic drive over the Helshoogte Pass to the stunning small winelands town of Franschhoek which lies in a valley surrounded by the mountains like a small Switzerland! Here you will stay for 2 nights at the charming Mont D’Or Guesthouse. Jump on the Vintage Wine Tram and have a leisurely day visiting the local wine farms and in the evening wander around the village trying out some of the best restaurants in the Cape Area.

DAY NINE & TEN
From Franschhoek you will now drive out to the famous Route 62 wine route where you will stay for 2 nights at the owner run In Abundance Guesthouse which is surrounded by their verdant gardens. This is a great location for visiting Montagu, Robertson & Ashton for a taste of rural life and tasting wines from a very different terroir.

DAY ELEVEN
You will continue on Route 62 to the famous Ostrich town of Oudtshoorn where you will stay overnight at Hlangana Lodge. Enjoy the architecture of the town, learn about the history and visit the ‘Ostrich Palaces’. Enjoy a Karoo style lunch at Karusa Wines and Craft Beer Brewery!

DAY TWELVE – FOURTEEN
Today you will drive to the heart of the Garden Route to the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay. Here you will stay at the lovely Emily Moon River Lodge. Located just outside of town lying high above the Bitou River as it winds its way to the Ocean, Emily Moon offers its guests so many things to enjoy that you may never want to leave. Plettenberg Bay area abounds with wildlife and adventure activities from walking with Cheetah, up close encounters with Elephants, watching the primates have fun at Monkeyland and much more. If you would like some adrenalin-based adventures then try the bungee jump from the Storms River Bridge (not for the faint hearted) followed by a relaxing picnic lunch in the vines at Bramon Wine Estate.
On your last morning you will check out of Emily Moon by 11h00 and self-drive to George Airport where you will return your hire car and check in for your connecting flight to the UK. (Flights not included.)
