Most of our clients choose to combine a general trip to South Africa with a short safari. With so much to choose from, it can be a little confusing and of course, there's your budget to consider. Further down, we have tried to clarify the basics of what's available and the sort of costs involved.

Finally, there are limited day trips available, but we must mention that although claims are made that they are a BIG 5 reserve, the reality is that you are unlikely to see them all on just a single day trip or, animals like the lion or leopard are held in a separate area.

Here is some information that may be relevant to you:

Remember that wherever you decide to go to, there is the likelihood that you will have to make additional air travel or at the very least, car journeys with the necessary additional costs.

The Kruger and northern Kwazulu Natal in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and all the other Southern African countries are possible malaria areas and therefore precautions should be taken.

Shamwari (CLICK HERE), Madikwe (CLICK HERE), Eastern Cape (Kariega) & Western Cape (CLICK HERE) are not malaria areas!

Prices for reasonable safari adventures start at around £ 150 ($ 240 or € 165) per person per night for an all inclusive lodge i.e. all game drives, meals and drinks. This is generally based on a 3 night stay. However, as you look to 5* lodges, these per person/per night rates can be anything from £ 300 ($ 480 or € 330) pppn up to £ 1000 ($ 1600 or €1100) for the most amazing lodge and game watching activities.

Currently, there are a number of specials available i.e. Stay 3 Pay for 2 or 4 for 3 etc. so please ask us which reserves/lodges this applies to.

The South African winter season (May to September) are excellent months to consider going on safari, especially if you are interested in whale watching as well (July to November)
